Many self help or motivational authors suggest that if you want to create greatness in your life, you have to put your dreams in writing. Does this really work?

Now, what dreams and desires do you have? Can you think of 100 things you really want to do before you die, and put them down on a piece of paper? Dreams are like a business plan. If you were an entrepreneur and wanted to start your own successful business, what is the first think you would do? to write a business plan. You want to put your business goals, as well as how you intend to fulfill these goals in writing, right?

Dreams and desires are no different. The authors of the motivational books I read, say that by writing down your dreams and desires you are asking the universe, your god, your deity, to bring them to you. Not only they say to write them down, but also to write them using the present tense, as if the dreams and desires are happening already.

When writing your dreams down, you should also engage your subconscious. You do that by relaxing and zeroing in on the dreams you are writing down as if you were living them. For example, if you dream of a brand new car, write down the details about the car such as the brand, model, color, and see yourself in that brand new car with the key in your hand about to drive it off the lot, smelling it, sitting in it, seeing it.

This may sound silly, but believe me, write your dreams down, write the story of your future life as you wish it were, and write it in the present tense. Set aside your fears, reservations, doubts about what is possible, and let your imagination run free, without holding back. Then, every night, before you go to bed, find a quite place, possibly alone, undisturbed, letting yourself relax very deeply, and read one page of your manuscript, imagining yourself living those dreams. They may come true.
